The History of ITIL®

 

ITIL® (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is one of the most well established IT Service management frameworks. It has the main function to better integrating the IT department to the rest of the business and help the whole organisation achieve its targets.

ITIL® dates back to the 1980’s where there was not established IT service management framework. The earliest version of the framework was called GITIM, which had similar concepts to ITIL® to today. In the 1990’s, ITIL® was become popular among large companies across the world. The 2nd version of ITIL® was released, where the volumes were more concise than before. The 3rd version of ITIL® was released, which had a greater emphasis of integration of the business.

There is a range of ITIL® to suite a range of needs. They are ITIL® Foundation, ITIL® Release, Control & Validation, ITIL®Operational Support & Analysis, Planning, Protection and Optimisation, ITIL® Service Operation, ITIL® Service Design, ITI®L Service Strategy, ITIL® Service Transition, ITIL® Managing Across the lifecycle and ITIL® Overview.

ITIL® Foundation course has been created for individuals who have an interest in learning the basic principles of ITIL®. The course takes place over three days and on the last day you are required to take an exam to test your knowledge of ITIL®.  The exam consists of 40 questions, all of which are multiple choice and you have an hour to complete them. The pass mark is 65%.

Another ITIL® V3 course is Release, Control & Validation. This course has been created for people who like to extend their knowledge of ITIL®. The course lasts 5 days and on the last day, you are required to take the exam. The exam consists of eight questions, all of which are multiple choice. You have 90 minutes to complete an exam and the pass rate 70% or 28 marks.

ITIL® V3 Service Design has been created for individuals who want to learn the principles and practise that make ITIL® so successful. The course takes place over three days and on the last day you are required to take an exam to test what you have learnt. The exam consists of 8 questions, all of which are multiple choice. You have 90 minutes to complete the exam and the pass mark is 70% or 28 marks.

ITIL® Managing Across a Lifecycle is one of the highest levels of ITIL® that exist. The course takes place over 5 days and on the last you are required to take an exam to test your knowledge of ITIL® V3. The exam has 10 questions, which are multiple choice. You have 2 hours to complete exam and the pass mark is 35 marks or 70%.
