What is Lean Six Sigma?

Lean Six Sigma is a specialised framework that has the main aim of removing ‘waste’ from a business processes. Lean Six Sigma defines eight types of waste, which are Skills, Over processing, Motion, Waiting, Inventory, Transportation, Defects and Over production.

History of Lean Six Sigma 

Lean Six Sigma dates back to the beginning of the 1900’s where it was widely considered that large corporations that there should be a process to reduce waste within a business. The development began by Boeing and Ford developing the framework. In the 1980’s, Motorola, developed one of the methodologies called DMAIC. This principle is still used today by a range of multi-national business such as Sony and Ford.

There is a range of Lean Six Sigma courses that suite a range of needs. They are called Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and Lean Six Sigma Black belt. Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt is the most basic out of the range of Lean Six Sigma courses as it doesn’t require you to have any prior experience with the framework, all you need is to have an interest in project management. The course takes place over 2 days. On the last day of the course, you are required to take an exam to test you knowledge of Lean Six Sigma. The exam consists of 40 questions and the pass mark is 70%.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is a course that allows current holders to the yellow belt course to upgrade their knowledge of Lean Six Sigma. It also integrates the Yellow belt training course so business individual who has an interest in project management can take the course. You will be required to take the yellow and green belt exams. The green belt exam has 30 questions and you have 2 hours to complete them. The pass mark is 70%.

Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is our most comprehensive course at it integrates all three Six Sigma courses. It takes place over 10 days and it doesn’t require you to have any prior experience. The course is split into two modules, the first one you will cover yellow and green belt certification and 2nd module you will cover the black belt certification. In addition, you will be required to take three exam, one of each part of the course. The black belt course consists of half exam and half classwork.  Combined they have a value of 100 marks, and you must score 70 marks in order to pass the course and gain the certification.
