Bromley is situated in the south-east of Charing Cross, England. The city is also a district headquarter in capital city London. As per the population count of five wards in 2011, the population of Bromley stands nearly 71,983. Concerning area, Bromley is also acknowledged as the borough of England. As per the records of AD862, Bromley was earlier recorded as Bromleag, ‘the place where broom grows’ in Anglo Saxon Period.
The history of Bromley is associated with See of Rochester. The Ethelbert, Kent’s King, gave land to form the Manor of Bromley in AD 862. Until 1845, this area was owned and looked after by the Bishops of Rochester. In the same year, when Coles Child a wealthy, philanthropist a local merchant bought Bromley Palace. In the end, he became the real owner of Lord of the manor. Bromley acknowledged as a part of the extended Metropolitan Police Territory in 1840. The parish part transformed as Bromley Urban District. In 1933, it developed as London Passenger Transport Area.
Bromley district has a lot of theatres in its basket. One theatre is located near the city North railway station. There is one more famous theatre in the basket of the city which is equipped with all facilities known as The Churchill Theatre. This is located in the town centre of the district. Economy and Governance
As per London Plan, Bromley district is acknowledged as a major metropolitan centre. Furthermore, a sizeable retail section of the region includes a pedestrianised High Street, The Glades centre, and the main shopping mall. Russell & Bromley, Gap, and Oasis are major retailers. Belgian-themed Belgo restaurants have a small branch in the district. These places also help further income in the basket of the city. The local people are also benefitted with tourism sector where they get a chance to sell things to global level.
Bromley district being part of the London European Parliament constituency and Bromley and Chislehurst Parliament constituency. The Present MP of Bromley is Bob Neil, and most prominent MP is Harold Macmillian.
There is two railway station in the Bromley district. First one is Bromley North station. Another one is Bromley South station with services to London Victoria. Trains are available to many stations including Gillingham, Orpington, Sevenoaks via Swanley, and Ashford International via Maidstone East. The local people use train services usually for travelling on a regular basis.
Bus services connect Bromley district with various areas including Beckenham, Orpington, Crystal Palace, Bexleyheath, Catford, Chislehurst, Grove Park, Croydon, Eltham, Hayes, Lewisham, New Addington, Sidcup, Penge, and West Wickham. One can easily access any bus service to move any part of the district.
Some deadly attacks on past damaged churches of St Peter and St Paul in 1941. The most historically significant building is on London Road, i.e., Bromley College. Martin's Hill, Church House Gardens, College Green, Queen’s Garden and Library Gardens are the central public open spaces. The St Mark's church is another attraction on Westmoreland Road.
