P3O® training is an abbreviation for Programming Project Portfolio Office. A basic overview of this methodology is its focus on injecting efficiency and improvement into a project. They enforce this through identifying prioritisation in tasks surrounding the business and carrying out risk assessments throughout projects.
Part one of the 5 day P3O® Foundation and Practitioner course is concentrated on P3O® Foundation. Understanding the themes and concepts of the P3O courses makes practically applying them to different scenarios more comprehensible. The reason for gaining a foundation qualification in the P3O® certification is to show that you have adequate knowledge of the concepts and principles of P3O® in order to move on to the Practitioner qualification.
Being able to develop and maintain the support structures of each individual concept as well as a collective, is a highly effective skill in an organisation. Not only structuring a well executed project from the foundations upwards, but maintaining the structure throughout the project is the most beneficial aspect. To be able to maximise value to the project, risk assessments are essential. Being able to identify potential problems and preparing to deal with them is an efficient way of decreasing time and money spent on dealing with the situation.
The ability to identify the order in which projects come into priority creates a structure for the business and helps to save cost in the business. Sometimes problems over flow and therefore fixing one problem could fix another problem. Identifying the order of importance helps to reduce time wasted and helps to set objectives for the business.
By combining both P3O courses needed to successfully qualify as a P3O® graduate, you are reducing the time in which it takes to attain these qualifications individually. Instead of spreading the qualifications over a stretch of months, you can obtain 2 qualifications in the space of 5 days.
A benefit of taking the P3O training course is that you will have substantial knowledge of the foundation concepts when taking the practitioner course because they are closer together. You will understand more of what is being asked of you as you will have retained more information in a shorter period of time.
A shorter space of time between the two examinations means that you can become an asset to the workplace quicker and be more involved in upcoming projects. There will also be a shorter amount of revision required as there will be less need to recall theories. As well as this, you will be working with the same people and trainers. Essentially, this means that you can become more confident throughout the 5 day period. Furthermore you will be familiar with working alongside the same candidates and understand their working environments. You will have higher amount motivation within this short time period, unlike if you were to pick up the Practitioner examination in the future.
This P3O course is an asset to their education as it can be combined with other methodologies such as PRINCE2® , M_o_R® and MSP® , all project management programmes. Being able to combine the different skills taught in each course, puts their value above other candidates.
